The Living Planet Report by WWF in partnership with SoortenNL and Sovon, is a biannual report on the change in nature over time, using the Living Planet Index (LPI) calculated by Statistics Netherlands. The Netherlands’ LPI is a modified version of the global LPI created by the international World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in cooperation with the Zoological Society London. The Dutch LPI is composed of the trends (changes in population size or size of the area of distribution) of the following species: butterflies, reptiles, breeding birds (i.e. birds that breed in the Netherlands, not birds that are only here in the winter or that migrate through the Netherlands), mammals, amphibians, dragonflies and freshwater fish (not migratory fish). Trends by species were first calculated and then compiled into a single LPI.
