Low-lying fens and raised bogs are isolated bodies of stagnant water that are nutrient-poor. Fens are fed by local groundwater, while raised bogs are fed by rainwater. Both types of areas arise naturally. Wet heathland, which includes raised bogs and many fens, has also been added to this category.
The time series starts in 1999 because no data was available for a large proportion of the species included in this indicator between 1990 and 1999.
