Turnover in accommodation and food services sector up by 2.2 percent in Q1
Turnover in the accommodation and food services sector was up by 2.2 percent in Q1 2026, year on year, reports Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Turnover in accommodation services grew by 1.9 percent and turnover in food and beverage outlets increased by 2.3 percent.
Q1 2026 is the twentieth consecutive quarter in which the accommodation and food services sector has generated more turnover than in the same quarter a year earlier. However, the growth of 2.2 percent is the smallest growth in the past five years.

Turnover in accommodation services increased by nearly 2 percent
In Q1 2026, turnover in accommodation services, which includes hotels and holiday parks, increased by 1.9 percent, year on year. Hotel turnover was up by 0.4 percent on Q1 2025, while holiday rentals and camp sites recorded an increase of 5.5 percent.
Turnover in food and beverage outlets over 2 percent higher
The turnover of food and beverage outlets increased by 2.3 percent compared with Q1 2025. Fast-food outlets recorded the largest increase in turnover, at 3.8 percent. Canteens and catering services saw their turnover grow by 2.6 percent. For restaurants and cafés, turnover was up by 1.6 percent and 1.3 percent respectively on Q1 2025.

Entrepreneurs in the accommodation and food services sector more negative
About three weeks ago, Statistics Netherlands published new data on business confidence in the Dutch private sector at the beginning of Q2 2026. Business confidence fell to -14.8 at the start of Q2 2026. This is the largest fall in confidence since early 2022. Confidence has fallen across all sectors and is now negative.
Business confidence in the accommodation and food services sector fell from -12.0 at the beginning of Q1 2026 to -30.1 in Q2 2026. Businesses in this sector were more negative about the current state of the economy and the future economic outlook.
