Independent SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) include all Dutch-owned enterprises in the Netherlands that employ fewer than 250 people, viewed at the enterprise level. Specifically, firms that are part of an enterprise that employs more than 250 people in total and firms under foreign control are not counted as independent SMEs under this definition.
