Instrumental activities of daily living

In the IADL (instrumental activities of daily living) part of the survey, people are asked about household activities that they may have difficulty with due to health issues. The IADL indicator comprises 7 activities:

1. Preparing meals
2. Making phone calls
3. Grocery shopping
4. Taking the right medication on time
5. Light housework
6. Heavy housework
7. Managing financial affairs and daily administration

The five response categories to the questions are: without any difficulty, with some difficulty, with great difficulty, I cannot do it, not applicable / have never done or had to do this. These questions were put to persons aged 55 and over. A survey respondent has a disability if he or she answers ‘unable to do it’ or ‘with great difficulty’ to at least one of the seven questions.
