Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilisers

Nitrogen and phosphorus are fertilisers that cause eutrophication of surface water. Eutrophication is the process of enrichment of surface water with excess plant nutrients, primarily phosphorus and nitrogen, which leads to enhanced growth of algae and higher plants. This can lead to excessive algae growth, causing the disappearance of aquatic plants and certain fish species.
