The reduction target

The reduction target of 55 percent by 2030 relative to 1990 includes emissions from land use and forestry (LULUCF). GHG emissions in this news release exclude LULUCF. LULUCF emissions will be included in the next quarterly publication (mid-June for Q1 2023).

LULUCF emissions gradually decreased from 6.2 megatons of CO2 equivalents in 1990 to 4.3 megatons of CO2 equivalents in 2021. This is a 31-percent decline. It is expected that in 2022 LULUCF emissions will be approximately the same as in 2021. When this is taken into account, the reduction compared to 1990 will remain equal to 32 percent.
