House price increase again smaller in September

In September, owner-occupied dwellings (excluding new constructions) were on average 9.6 percent more expensive than in the same month last year. The price increase was 11.9 percent in August. It is the fifth consecutive month that the price increase levelled off. This is evident from price monitoring of existing owner-occupied dwellings by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency.

Upward trend in house prices does not continue

The price index of owner-occupied dwellings fell in September 2022. House prices reached a low in June 2013; they have followed an upward trend since then. However, the price index has not increased further in recent months. In September, house prices were on average 97.6 percent higher than during the low in June 2013.

Virtually the same number of transactions in September

According to The Netherlands’ Cadastre, the total number of transactions recorded over the month of September 2022 stands at 17,631. This is 0.3 percent higher than one year previously. In the first nine months of this year, altogether 141,758 dwellings changed owners. This is over 18 percent less than in the same period in 2021.
