All survey participants are asked the following question: “Do you have diabetes?” If the answer is 'yes', a number of questions follow to determine whether it is type 1 or 2 diabetes. The percentage of people with type 2 diabetes is the percentage of people who answer 'yes' to the question “Do you have diabetes?” and 'no' to at least one of the two follow-up questions: “Are you currently using insulin for this purpose” and “Did you start using insulin within 6 months of being diagnosed with diabetes?”
