Manufacturing output prices 20.9 percent up in January

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports for January 2022 that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were up by an average of 20.9 percent year on year. Dutch-manufactured products were 19.6 percent up year on year in the previous month.

Larger increase in crude oil price

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. The crude oil price was 75.5 euros on average in January 2022, i.e. over 66 percent higher than in the same month in 2020. In December 2021, a barrel of North Sea Brent oil cost almost 66 euros, i.e. over 59 percent more than one year previously.

In January, prices of petroleum derivatives were up by 69.5 percent year on year; they were up by 69.3 percent in December. In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 41.3 percent higher in January than in the same month of the previous year. In December 2021, prices were up by 45.4 percent year on year.

Prices in almost all of the manufacturing industries increased year on year in January 2021.

Prices of manufactured products rose in January

Relative to December, manufacturing output prices rose by 3.7 percent in January. They increased by 3.1 percent on the domestic market and by 4.3 percent on the export market.
