House price increase higher again

In June 2021, owner-occupied dwellings (excluding new constructions) were on average 14.6 percent more expensive than in the same month last year, representing the largest increase since January 2001. The price rise moderated in 2019 but picked up again in 2020. This is evident from price monitoring of existing owner-occupied dwellings by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and The Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency.

House prices show upward trend

House prices reached a low in June 2013; they have followed an upward trend since then, reaching a new record level in June 2021. Compared to the low in June 2013, house prices were 70 percent higher on average in June.

Roughly the same number of housing transactions

According to The Netherlands’ Cadastre, the total number of transactions recorded over the month of June 2021 stood at 17,707. This is virtually the same number as one year previously. In the first six months of this year, altogether 119,414 dwellings changed owners. This represents an increase of over 12 percent relative to the same period in 2020.
