32 bankruptcies in week 52

In week 52, 32 companies and institutions including sole proprietorships were declared bankrupt, as reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). This is 15 fewer than in week 51. In the first 52 weeks of 2020, altogether 3,179 bankruptcies were pronounced among companies and institutions in the Netherlands. This is 606 down on the same period in 2019.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, CBS is providing weekly updates on the number of bankruptcies pronounced by Dutch courts. The weekly updates are normally released on Thursdays at 12.00 p.m.

Not including sole proprietorships, there were 23 bankruptcies in week 52, 8 fewer than in week 51. In addition, 9 sole proprietorships were declared bankrupt, 7 fewer than in the previous week.

Most bankruptcies recorded in wholesale trade

Of all sectors, wholesale trade recorded the highest number of bankruptcies, namely 5. This is the same number as in the previous week. Furthermore, 4 companies were declared bankrupt in the transportation and storage sector, 3 more than in week 51. In the food and beverages services also 4 companies went bankrupt, 2 more than in week 51.
