39 bankruptcies in week 46

In week 46, 39 companies and institutions including sole proprietorships were declared bankrupt, as reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). This is 25 fewer than in week 45. In the first 46 weeks of 2020, altogether 2,909 bankruptcies were pronounced among companies and institutions in the Netherlands. This is 417 down on the same period in 2019.

Throughout the coronavirus crisis, CBS is providing weekly updates on the number of bankruptcies pronounced by Dutch courts. The weekly updates are normally released on Thursdays at 12.00 p.m.

Not including sole proprietorships, there were 31 bankruptcies in week 46, 22 fewer than in week 45. In addition, 8 sole proprietorships were declared bankrupt, 3 fewer than in the previous week.

Most bankruptcies recorded in financial services

Of all sectors, the financial services sector recorded the highest number of bankruptcies, namely 8. This is 3 up on the previous week. Furthermore, 7 companies were declared bankrupt in construction, 8 fewer more than in the previous week. There were 5 bankruptcies in both transportation and storage, and the specialised business services sector (including legal services providers, architectural offices and advertising agencies). This is 2 fewer in transportation and storage and 4 fewer in specialised business services compared to week 45.
