A sector objective in one sector may lead to increased emissions from another sector. For example, fossil fuels are being phased out, e.g. in traffic (with more and more electric vehicles) and in the energy transition (no more houses connected to the natural gas grid). Although this cuts emissions in the sectors mobility and the built environment, it also causes increased demand for electricity. This means an even greater challenge for electricity companies to meet the targets in the climate agreement. Due to these kinds of dependencies, the sector objectives are indicative. They provide guidance to the sectors to ultimately reach the 49 percent reduction target in a joint effort.
