Manufacturing output prices 3.2 percent up in April

Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reports that prices of Dutch-manufactured products were 3.2 percent up in April 2019 year-on-year. The increase was higher than in the previous month, when prices in manufacturing were up by 2.6 percent.

Crude oil price up

In April 2019, the price of a barrel of crude North Sea Brent oil was slightly under 64 euros, almost 9 percent higher than in April 2018. In March 2019, the crude oil barrel price stood at over 59 euros, almost 10 percent up on March 2018.

Output prices are strongly affected by crude oil price developments. In April, prices of petroleum derivatives increased by over 10 percent year-on-year. Prices were up by almost 12 percent in March.

In the chemical industry as well, output prices are generally linked to crude oil price developments. Output prices of chemical products were 0.7 percent higher in April than in the same month last year. In March, prices decreased by 0.5 percent year-on-year.

Prices in most sectors of manufacturing were higher in April 2019 than in the same month one year previously.

Prices of manufactured products increased in April

Manufacturing output prices rose by 1.4 percent in April relative to March. They increased by 1.3 percent on the domestic market and by 1.4 percent on the export market.
