The first-time father’s age as presented here is his age at the time the mother’s first child is born. Because the identity of a child’s father is sometimes unknown, it is not always certain that the first registered child is indeed a father’s first child. Moreover, birth order was not laid down in the birth records until 2010 and hence cannot serve as data for a comparison over a number of years. Instead, CBS publishes data on the father’s average age during the birth of the mother’s first child.
