In January 2016, the Netherlands registered 3.3 thousand asylum seekers and following family members. This total is over one-quarter less than in December, when 4.6 thousand people were registered by the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). October 2015 saw a peak number of 11.7 thousand registrations, with the number declining every month after that, according to Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Numbers per month are of applications formally registered by the IND. A large influx may result in asylum seekers being registered in a later month than in which they arrived in the Netherlands.
