Under special conditions, following family members of residence permit holders can obtain a provisional residence permit. If a provisional residence permit is granted, these family members will receive a derived asylum permit upon entering the Netherlands. Until recently, these family reunion applicants (following family members) had to submit a request for asylum and subsequently an asylum permit could be granted. The residence permit holder must apply for a provisional residence permit within 3 months after the asylum permit is granted. The validity period of the provisional residence permit is set at 90 days.
