A person’s death which is caused by murder, manslaughter, violence, road (including traffic) accidents, personal accident, occupational accident or by suicide. These are also called external causes of mortality. Euthanasia is not deemed classifiable under non-natural deaths. In this news release, road accidents (ICD-10 codes: V01-V99) and suicide or intentional self-harm (ICD-10 codes: X60-X84) are made visible, two causes which play a major role in the mortality of young people especially. At a later age, falls are the leading cause (W01-W19). These were not made visible separately in graph 5, but fall under other causes of death.
