Diseases of the nervous and sensory system

In the death cause statistics, diseases of the nervous and sensory system (ICD-10 codes G00-G99) are mainly comprised of diseases of the nervous system, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis (MS). These degenerative diseases affect critical functions of the brain, e.g. memory (Alzheimer’s), movement (Parkinson’s)  and sensitivity (MS) and can therefore also be regarded as an underlying cause of death.
