Life expectancy

Life expectancy in a particular year indicates what age people would on average reach if the mortality rates by age in that particular year would apply during a person’s entire life. It is an estimate of someone’s life expectancy according to the situation in that particular year. Life expectancy without physical limitations indicates a person’s life expectancy without physical limitations in mobility, sight or hearing. Life expectancy in perceived good health is the number of years in which people define their own health as good.

In the estimates regarding healthy life expectancy, the data provided in the period 1983-2112 by the share of people with physical limitations or a less good health are used as a basis for future developments. Data regarding life expectancy developments in the institutional population (people living in homes and institutions) are taken into account.
