Persons aged 55 or older who rely on pensions as their main personal source of income. Pensions include benefits under the General Old Age Pensions Act (AOW), work-related pensions, surviving relatives’ pensions, annuities, benefits under the General Surviving Relatives Act (ANW) and pensions paid to war victims and former resistance members. This article focuses on the main source of income in the month of September of a particular year.
Pensioners staying abroad are persons aged 55 or older living outside the Netherlands who receive pensions from the Netherlands amounting to at least 70 percent of the minimum wage. The option for this approach is due to the fact that it proves to be impossible to verify the main personal source of income of people living abroad.
Data referring to the second last year under review are based on the definitive Social Statistical Database. Figures about the last two reference years are ‘provisional' and based on data from the Insurance administration.
