Bachelor-master system

The bachelor-master system was introduced in Dutch higher education in study year 2002/’03. One consequence of this was that programmes of higher professional education (hbo) were converted to 4-year bachelor programmes. For a small number of disciplines a master programme was added. In university education, the programme was converted to a bachelor’s programme of 3 years and a master’s programme of 1,2 or 3 years. Both the bachelor’s and the master’s programmes are concluded with a degree. Some disciplines only introduced this system in 2003/’04. Medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences introduced it even later.
