The figures presented in this article deal with private households. Over-65s living in institutional households, e.g. homes for the elderly, are not taken into account. Over-65 households not only include singles and couples, but also other households with at least one household member over the age of 65, for example elderly people living with their children. The figures are provisional and based on the Income Panel Survey.
