Unemployment benefit

The Unemployment Act (WW) aims to protect employees against the financial consequences of becoming unemployed. The WW provides an income-based benefit. The duration period of the benefit depends on the claimant’s employment record. The Institute for Implementation of Employees’ Insurances (UWV) decides whether a person is entitled to a WW benefit.
Not every person who loses their job will receive an unemployment benefit. Only employees will receive WW. They also must have built up WW rights, which means that – prior to redundancy – they must have worked long enough. WW benefits are paid during a limited period of time, depending on the person’s employment record. The WW entitlement period ranges between a minimum of three and a maximum of thirty-eight months. Part-time WW benefits are not included in the number of WW benefits referred to in this article.
