More than 500 bankruptcies in August

In August this year,  510 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, nearly 50 more than in July.

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days the courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-month moving average is a more reliable indicator.

The three-month moving average was 470 in August versus 486 in July. The three-month moving average has been decreasing gradually over the past two years, from slightly over 600 to a level well below 500.
