540 bankruptcies filed in March

In March, 540 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, 14 more than in February.

As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days the courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.

The three-monthly moving average was 517 in March versus 479 in February 2011. Since the summer of 2009, the number of bankruptcies has been decreasing steadily, although with some ups and downs.

The figures published in this update have been adjusted from those published on 11 April 2011. The revision is based on new and more detailed information.
