Business investments lower

In September 2010, the volume of corporate investments in tangible fixed assets was 4.8 percent down on September 2009. The decline is more substantial than in August, when private sector investments were 1.1 percent down on one year previously.

The capacity utilisation rate and manufacturers' opinions do not suggest a clear recovery of business investments. The decline in business investments occurred simultaneously with a low capacity utilisation rate in manufacturing industry. The rate was 80.6 percent in October. Although marginally higher than in July, the rate is still low from a historic point of view. Manufacturers evaluating their own production capacity as too large were almost equal to those evaluating their capacity as too small.
