Welfare benefits

Benefits claimed under the Wet Werk en Bijstand (WWB) or under the income provision on the basis of the Act on Investment in Young People (WIJ; in force from 1 October 2009 onwards). These income support benefits are paid by the municipalities. They refer only to periodic general welfare for people living at home.

This web magazine deals with everyone aged under 64 on 31 December 2008. This concerns 297 thousand people from some 250 thousand households receiving welfare benefits at the end of 2008. These people were observed in 2009. At the end of 2009 they had not yet turned 65. Their job situation was recorded in the month following the termination of the welfare benefits. When someone finds a job more than once a year, this is calculated as a transition to work. All jobs of employees are included, also temp jobs or small jobs of just a few hours a week or for a limited period. There is no data available yet on the permanence of the jobs found.
