Cassation

Parties can appeal to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands to reverse the verdict of a judge in a lower court. If such an appeal is granted, the judgment concerned is annulled. In the case of such an annulment, the Supreme Court appoints a judge in a lower court to hear the case further. During this hearing, the judgment of the Supreme Court must be taken into consideration. In some cases the Supreme Court hears the case itself. The appeal is rejected if the Supreme Court finds no grounds to reverse judgment.
