Benelux

Benelux is an acronym for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The Benelux was founded as a customs union in September 1944 by the governments which had fled to London during the Second World War. The Benelux is a union between these three countries which promotes free trade of goods and a common tariff for goods imported from countries outside the Benelux. Since the treaty of 1958, the Benelux is an economic union. As from 2010, the Benelux will also engage in environmental issues, justice and internal affairs. Its official name will henceforth be Benelux Union.

Due to the Second World War, data on imports and exports are available from 1946.
