WAO and WIA

WAO
The Dutch Disability Insurance Act (WAO) provides employees who became disabled before 1 January 2004 with benefits replacing their wages after two years of occupational disablement.
On 1 January 2006 this Act was replaced by WIA.
Although the WAO is closed for new cases, the existing WAO benefits continue to be paid.

WIA
The Dutch Work and Income according to Labour Capacity Act (WIA) provides employees who became occupationally disabled with benefits replacing their wages. The WIA applies only to employees who fell ill on or after 1 January 2004 and who are still occupationally disabled for at least 35 percent after two years. The WIA applies stricter admission criteria than the WAO.
