New member states

The countries that joined the European Union on 1 May 2004 are Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union on 1 January 2007. Figures on income inequality in 2007 for the new member states are as yet not available.
