Private education

In this article, private education is defined as the part of the non-subsidised education sector that is covered by the definition of the international education statistics. Private education is supposed to:

  • Lead to a widely recognised certificate and not just to train skills (e.g. driving lessons);
  • Be relevant for the labour market (no hobby courses);
  • Require 400 hours of study or more and last at least six months;
  • In-house company courses are excluded.

Training courses organised by the police and the Ministry of Defence are included in private education. These categories cannot be monitored separately. International schools are outside the private education sector.
