Formal childcare

Formal childcare is defined as:

  • day care for children aged 0 to 4 years;
  • out-of-school care for primary school pupils, both before and after school and during school holidays;
  • care in parent-participation crèches or by agency childminders.

Informal care is paid or unpaid childcare, either at the child’s home or elsewhere, which is not covered by official childcare regulations.

In addition to formal and informal childcare, playgroups are available for children aged 2 and 3 years
