Imports of even-toed ungulates from the United Kingdom restricted
In the first five months of 2007, the Netherlands imported more than 880 thousand live even-toed ungulates (hoofed animals), viz. cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. This is 20 percent down on the period January-May 2006. Only 40 thousand even-toed animals, largely cattle, were imported from the United Kingdom in the first five months of this year.
The Netherlands also imported more than 382 thousand tons of meat and meat products from even-toed ungulates, a 3 percent increase relative to 2006. The share of the United Kingdom in Dutch meat imports was 5 percent. The Netherlands mainly imports pork and beef from the United Kingdom.
