Records of insurance companies

At the request of the Ministry of public health, welfare and sport, insurance companies provided data to Statistics Netherlands on persons who had not paid their nominal health care insurance premium for at least six months on 31 December 2006. The insurance companies which sent these data represent 96 percent of all insured persons. Statistics Netherlands subsequently linked these data for 31 December 2006 to the municipal population registration as of 13 June 2007, the Reference dataset of people insured under the health care insurance act of 2 March 2007 and supplementary datasets on benefits and households. The number of defaulters aged 18 years and older according to the insurance companies was 211.5 thousand. Of these, 190 thousand were registered in the municipal population registration on 31 December 2006.
