South African wine imports no longer growing

For the first time in many years, the volume of wine imported from South Africa decreased considerably last year, by over 10 million litres. Between 1996 and 2004, the volume of wine imported from South Africa still increased by more than 500 percent. In 2005, the volume was about the same as in 2004.
Of the traditional wine-producing countries, imports from France are still decreasing. Wine imports from France diminished for the third consecutive year. With a share of 34 percent in total wine imports into the Netherlands, France does retain its position as main supplier. Imports from relative newcomers, like Argentina, Australia and Chile increased further in 2006.
