Bonds

Until 2002 shares constituted the largest category in foreign investment, since then bonds have accounted for the largest share. Pension funds relatively more often invest in foreign shares than in foreign bonds.
Insurers invest relatively more in foreign bonds. This has to do with the fact that insurance companies mostly have fixed contractual obligations in euros, which are mainly covered by investment in euros.
