Substantial increase in the number of beauty parlours

In the period 1995-2005 the number of beauty parlours increased by 62 percent. In this period the population increased by 6 percent. In 1995 there were 11 beauty parlours per 25 thousand inhabitants, in 2005 there are 17.

Usually no employees

Less than 10 percent of all enterprises involved in beauty care employ people. Only 90 beauty parlours employ five or more people beside the owner.

Doubled in Drenthe and Flevoland

In the provinces Drenthe and Flevoland the number of beauty parlours more than doubled in the last decade. In Drenthe there were 160 in 1995 and 360 in 2005. In Flevoland the number increased from 80 to 200 during this period. Despite the increases, the number of beauty parlours in these fairly sparsely populated provinces lags far behind that in most other provinces.

Limburg and North Brabant

Limburg and North Brabant have the largest number of beauty parlours per 25 thousand inhabitants, over 20. Groningen and Flevoland have the lowest, namely just over 13.
