HSMR 2024 Methodological Report

5. Conclusions

Overall, the HSMR 2024 model was largely the same as the model of previous year. The definition of the covariate ‘month of admission’ of the COVID-19 model was adjusted to match the definition used in the models for other diagnosis groups, based on two-month categories. The predictive value of the model was not affected by this change. Additionally, hospital admissions that were fully registered at a rehabilitation or psychiatry unit were excluded from the population of admissions that was used to calculate the HSMR.

Sections 4.3 and 4.4 evaluate the quality of the present HSMR model. The C-statistics have changed little compared to the previous model. The order of the covariates with regard to explanatory power is mostly the same, although some minor changes have occurred in the relative importance of some of the variables. Overall, the model and the quality of the model have changed little compared to previous year.
