Table explanation
This table contains figures on the number of employed persons in active market oriented enterprises in the Netherlands within the branches of manufacturing and energy, and commercial services. The focus is on larger enterprises with an average of at least 50 employed persons in the reference year, according to the General Business Register. Dormant (inactive) units and enterprises that have fully left the Netherlands are excluded. The figures cover all enterprises that were active for at least part of the reference period and that remained active at the end of that period. The distribution of employed persons is shown by branch according to the Standard Industrial Classification 2008 (SIC 2008) and by enterprise size class of the enterprises where they are employed, as well as by the business functions in which they work.

- Employed persons
- Number of employed persons at market-oriented active enterprises within the branches of manufacturing and energy, and commercial services, with at least 50 employed persons. Figures are rounded to the nearest thousand.
Employed person: Someone working for an enteprise located in the Netherlands, or an institution or private household in the Netherlands. Persons employed are all persons having paid jobs, even for only one or some hours a week.
The number of persons employed consists of:
- employees and directors who are on the payroll;
- employees who are on the payroll of another enterprise or institution, but work in the enterprise's own place of business and as such are in fact part of the workforce (agency staff);
- employed proprietors, partners, associates and cooperating family members;
- agency staff.
Loaned personnel (employees on the payroll, but working for another enterprise or institution) are not included under persons employed
The population consists of active enterprises in the Netherlands that are recorded in the business register. Dormant (inactive) units and enterprises that have fully exited the Netherlands are excluded. The figures cover all enterprises that were active for at least part of the reference period and that remained active at the end of that period.
