Table explanation

This table contains figures on the consumer price index (CPI). The CPI measures changes in the prices of goods and services purchased by households in the Netherlands for their own consumption. The table provides information on the contribution and impact of the expenditure categories. The annual rate of change and weighting coefficient are also shown. The annual rate of change of the CPI all items is known as the inflation.

The contribution shows the share of the price change for each individual expenditure category in the annual rate of change of the total CPI. For each classification level, the contributions of the individual categories add up to the total annual rate of change. The impact provides an answer to the question of how much higher or lower the annual rate of change in the total CPI would be if a particular category were excluded.

CPI figures are published every month. After the end of each calendar year, annual figures are also released. The index figure for a given calendar year is calculated as the average of the indices for the twelve months in that year.

Data available from: January 2016.

Status of the figures:
When the figures for a given reporting month are published for the first time, they are provisional. The final figure is published in the second publication for the same month. Any differences between the provisional and final figures are due to additional source data.

Changes compared to the previous version include:
Data for a new period has been added and/or adjustments have been made.

When will new figures be published?
The new figures are usually published between the first and second Thursday of the month following the reporting month.

All CPI publication dates are shown in the publication calendar (see paragraph 3).

Description topics

Annual rate of change CPI
Percentage change of the CPI compared with the same period previous year.
Weighting coefficient
The weighting coefficient reflects the share (in hundred thousandths) of the total consumer expenditure.
Contribution to annual rate of change
The contribution is the part that the price development of a product group contributes to the total annual rate of change.
Impact on the annual rate of change
The impact measures how much higher or lower the annual rate of change would be if a product group was to be totally excluded.
