Production

The value of all goods intended for sale (including those not yet sold) and receipts for services rendered, as well as the value of products with a market equivalent produced for own use, such as investments for own management, own housing services and agricultural products for own consumption by farmers.

Added value

The value of all goods and services produced (the production value or output) minus the value of goods and services used up during this production (the intermediate consumption). The output is valued at basic prices, which is the sales price excluding the trade and transport margin and excluding the product-related taxes paid and the product-related subsidies received. Intermediate consumption is valued at purchase value excluding non-deductible VAT.

Import of goods

Imports of goods occurs when economic ownership of goods is passed from non-residents to residents. This applies irrespective of corresponding physical movements of goods across borders. A company or authority is considered to be a resident when it has been operational within the Netherlands for at least one year. This applies to all companies and authorities, regardless of whether they are foreign-owned or not. Goods imports also include re-exports: previously imported goods which are exported again, often after undergoing minimal processing, e.g. where ownership is subsequently transferred to non-residents (re-exports).

Imports of services

The value of services supplied by non-residents (companies and individuals settled abroad) to Dutch companies (and persons), including spending of Dutch travelers abroad (touristic traffic).

Domestic exports

Export of goods that have been manufactured in the Netherlands or of goods that were manufactured elsewhere but have received significant processing in the Netherlands (i.e. depending on the extent to which the commodity code of these goods has changed).

Re-exports

The export of goods which, after being imported into the Netherlands, undergo hardly any or no significant processing and are then shipped to other countries. The goods are (temporarily) owned by a resident enterprise while in the Netherlands.
Re-exports include among other things commodities that are cleared through customs by Dutch distribution centres and are delivered to other countries (within Europe). Unlike transit trade, re-exports are part of Dutch imports and exports.

Export of services

The flow of services (sales, exchanges and donations) provided by residents (of the Netherlands) to non-residents. Export of services includes but is not limited to services provided by Dutch logistics companies abroad, port services provided to foreign vessels, ship repair and work contracted abroad by Dutch contractors. The export of services also includes expenditure in the Netherlands by non-residents.

Export earnings

The value added that remains after deducting the cost of imports required in order to produce the goods in question.
Earnings from exports in a given sector are the total earnings obtained in the Netherlands from the export of goods and services by the relevant sector. These may also be goods produced or traded (in part) by a different sector (as in the case of the wholesale trade). Earnings from exports therefore do not accrue solely to the exporting sector.
