Table explanation


This table measures the price development in the transaction price of a dwelling that was purchased for own-use and the cost of all goods and services that households purchase in their role as owner occupiers of dwellings. Acquisition costs concerns the purchase of a newly built dwelling, self-built dwelling and a former rental dwelling. Costs of possession a dwelling concerns costs of (large) maintenance and property insurance.

Status of the figures:
The figures in this table are one period provisional; the sub-series ‘Acquisition formally rented dwelling’ and ‘Structural costs: insurance’ are final directly.

Changes as of 7 April 2026:
The figures for period 4th quarter and the year 2025 have been added and the figures for the 3rd quarter 2025 are now final.
Due to an improvement in the production process, some final figures have been revised by 0.1.


Changes as of 8 January 2026:
One of the underlying sources used for the index figures ‘Owner-occupiers Housing: Owners, cost to acquire and own, 2020=100’ has been revised retroactively. The subseries this source uses is ‘Acquisition of self-built dwellings’. As a result, some index figures in this subseries have been adjusted from the fourth quarter of 2023 onwards by a maximum of 0.6 index points. Index figures in the parent aggregates have also been adjusted from the fourth quarter of 2023 onwards by a maximum of 0.1 index point.


When will new figures be published?
New figures are published in July 2026.
