Table explanation
This table contains data on life style of the Dutch population in private households. These data can be grouped by several personal characteristics.
Data available from: 2014.
Status of the data: final.
Changes by January 16, 2026:
Within the characteristic 'position in household', the category 'other member of household' has been changed to 'member other household', because that is more correct. Furthermore, the numbers for the characteristic "Partner in couple: no child, 40-64 yrs" were swapped with the numbers for the characteristic "Partner in couple: no child, >=65 yrs." This has now been corrected.
Changes by April 3, 2025:
Data about 2024 have been added.
Figures taking a fall course or fall training among people aged 65 and over were added and data about high risk sexual activity in the previous twelve months among people aged 16 and over were added.
Changes by September 24, 2024:
The nutrition score is calculated based on various components.
For the component score for snacks, for children aged 1 to 9 years people, the cut-off point of persons aged 9 years and older were incorrectly used instead of the age-specific cut-off points. This has been adjusted. As a result, the figures for the total food score (high, medium, low and average nutrition score) changed slightly.
When will new data be published?
Data on reporting year 2025 will be published in the second quarter of 2026
Description topics
- Alcohol consumption, 12 years or older
- The questions on consuming alcohol are asked to all persons aged 12 years or older.
- Drinkers
- Number of alcoholic beverages per day
- Average number of glasses per day per drinker of 12 years or older.
- Nutrition, 1 year or older, from 2023
- The questions about nutrition are asked to all people aged 1 year or older and cover the consumption of meat and fish, fruit, vegetables, sugary drinks, bread and snacks. The nutritional questions are thoroughly revised in 2023. Therefore the figures on fish, fruit and vegetable consumption for the years before 2023 cannot be compared to those from 2023 onwards.
- Food score, health survey
- The nutrition score is composed on the basis of partial scores on the following aspects of nutrition: consumption of meat and fish, vegetables, fruit, sugary drinks, brown or wholemeal bread, snacks and (from 12 years) alcohol. The nutritional score ranges from 0 to 10, a higher score indicates that the nutrition on the above aspects is more in line with the Nutrition Center guidelines. The score is divided into three classes.
- Average nutrition score
