Description topics
- Housing accommodation stock on 1 January
- The stockfigures are itemized by dwellings, dwelling units,
recreation houses and special residential buildings.- Dwelling stock
- Total number of dwellings on 1 January. A dwelling is defined as:
a building intended for permanent habitation by one private
household. Four criteria have to be met:
1 - the building needs to be fit or made fit for private habitation;
2 - the dwelling needs to have a separate entrance which gives access to the living space either directly from a public road or through a porch,
gallery, stairwell or passage;
3 - the dwelling must cover a minimum space of 14 m2 consisting of
kitchen, living room(s), bedroom(s), study, hobbyroom(s), etc. Not
included in the living space are the lavatory, bathroom, storage room and technical room;
4 - the dwelling needs to have a toilet and a kitchen fit for the
preparation of complete meals.
---
The statistical information on the dwelling stock is based on the census/
housing survey of 28 February 1971 and an intermediate survey
conducted among municipalities at the end of 1975 and subsequently on changes reported to Statistics Netherlands by the municipalities. From 1992, data on the dwelling stock have been based on the dwelling survey with reference date 1 January 1992 and after that date on changes reported to Statistics Netherlands by the municipalities.
- Dwelling units stock
- Total number of dwelling units on 1 January. A dwelling unit is defined
as part of a building intended for permanent habitation by a private
household and meeting all the criteria which apply to a dwelling with the exception of the following criterium: the unit needs to have a toilet and a kitchen fit for the preparation of complete meals. Shared toilet and/or kitchen facilities are required instead.
---
Until 1992, dwelling units in homes for the elderly, etc. were also included.
From 1992, these units are included in the category 'special residential buildings'. Information on the dwelling units stock is based on the inventory of 1 January 1984 and subsequently on changes reported to Statistics Netherlands by the municipalities.
From 1992, statistical information on the dwelling stock have been based on the administrative housing survey with reference date 1 January 1992.
- Recreation houses
