Description topics
- Functional limitations
- Functional limitations are observed in the module 'Health and Labour
Conditions' of the Integrated System of Social Surveys in 3 groups of
questions:
a. The OECD indicator for persons in the age category 12 years and older
b. The GDA (General Daily Activities) indicator for persons in the age
category 55 and older.
c. Temporary activity limitations and bed days for persons of all ages.- General Daily Activities (GDA) indicator
- Limitations according to the GDA indicator.
The GDA (General Daily Activities) indicator is based on the following
10 questions:
1 eating and drinking
2 sit down in a chair and rise from a chair
3 get into and out of bed
4 dress and undress
5 go to another room on the same floor
6 walk up and down the stairs
7 leave and enter the house
8 move outdoors
9 wash one's face and hands
10 wash one's whole body
The 4 possible answers to these questions are: 'easily', 'with some
effort', 'with a lot of effort', 'only with the help of others'. The
indicator scores 'yes' if at least one of the answers to the above 10
questions is: 'with a lot of effort' or 'only with the help of others'.
The questions were asked to persons in the age category 55 and older
in the oral part of the module 'Health and Labour Conditions'.
From 2001, questions 2, 3 and 6 have also been asked to persons
in the age category 12-54. The figures presented refer to persons in the
age category 55 and older.- Persons with 1 or more GDA limitations
- Percentage of persons with 1 or more GDA limitations.
Refers to the percentage of persons in the population aged 55 and older
who answered 'yes' at least once to one of the 10 questions of the GDA
indicator (see: GDA indicator).
- GDA limitations per person
- Number of GDA indicators per person.
Refers to the number limitations per person in the population aged 55 and
older (see: GDA indicator).
