For the European harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), new methods and sources have been implemented for the 2015=100 index series for the expenditure categories '096020 Package international holidays' and '112020 Holiday centres, camping sites, youth hostels and similar accommodation services' from reporting month January 2025 onwards.

For the holiday centres price index, a switch has been made from website prices to actual prices paid, along with a different type of price index. Also a new method has been introduced for the package holidays price index. This method takes seasonality even more into account. Previously, prices of unavailable package holidays, such as winter sports holidays, were included unchanged in the index calculation. This is not in accordance with Eurostat regulations for seasonal products and services. The new method takes into account the number of package holidays sold per month and is therefore in accordance with European regulations.

The new methods were implemented as of January 2025 by revising the existing indices for the whole of 2025. It is important to note that the annual average index of the old and new methods has remained the same. Therefore, the annual average index for the HICP total has not changed either. The indices based on the old method are no longer available on StatLine. Instead, these, including the higher aggregates and the total, are available in this customized publication.

The above methodological changes coincide with the shift in the reference year of the consumer price index (CPI) and the HICP from 2015=100 to 2025=100. More information about this can be found in the methodology document "Consumer price index from 2026".
