The Netherlands in Numbers 2025, key issues facing our society today
Key issues in our society
The world around us is changing rapidly, and these changes require CBS to be flexible and responsive in delivering timely, reliable statistics and insightful statistical information about the Netherlands. The most important themes for this year have been selected with considerable care. All these themes are brought together in our online publication, which features detailed figures on the most relevant subjects. For example, the Dashboard on SDGs, such as housing and Affordable and clean energy provide more detailed information on these important subjects. Housing is also a central theme in this edition. According to the latest data on StatLine, over 82 thousand homes were added in the most recent reporting year. Statistics Netherlands compiles statistics on the key issues we are facing as a society in order to inform the public debate and help the government, businesses and citizens to make the best decisions.
Subjects that matter
In addition to the major societal issues, CBS has a tradition of highlighting some of the most notable and interesting articles published over the past year in The Netherlands in Numbers. This includes any unusual or surprising statistics. In this edition, for instance, one section is about which languages people speak at home. The language that people speak at home is an important part of people’s identity, and it is interesting to see that Limburgish remains the most commonly spoken language at home in the southern province of Limburg, at 48 percent. This is followed by the province of Friesland (Fryslân) in the Northern Netherlands, where 42 percent of people speak Frisian at home.Related items
